Audacity:

This program is available free at the following web site http://audacity.sourceforge.net/.
I reccomend using the beta format  1.3.14 (Beta) for Windows® 7, Windows®Vista, Mac OS X 10.4 to 10.7 and Linux/Unix. 1.3.14 as it is more stable.

The original version Audacity 1.2 does not support Windows® 7, Windows® Vista or Mac OS X 10.4 or later however is stable for  Windows® 98/ME/2000/XP but the newer version 1.3.14 (Beta) has more enhanced features and works equally well in these Windows® versions.

I have used this recording rogram for many years and created my first CD using Audacity. I recommend this program for beginners who wish to created high quality digital recordings. There are many programs available for sale and some of them combine mastering features which Audacity does not but I believe anyone who uses this program will be very satified with its features.

I record music directly into this program using a quality microphone directly connected to my computer. I have also used my mixing board for multiple microphones where I can adjust the input levels and mix effects before the signal enters my computer. The only limitation is how many microphones the mixer will handle. Audacity does not allow for individual tracks at one time but the audio levels can be adjusted on the mixing board prior to import to the program. Once the audio is recorded, there are many effects which can be added to the audio clip.

Once the audio is precessed to the users satisfaction it can be saved as an Audacity project and then can be exported to either a wave file.

Audacity can convert your file to an Mp3 format with the appropriate plug in called LAME available free at: http://lame.sourceforge.net/

If you want more flexiblity to master your recordings you will need to download other programs specifically designed to master your audio. I have been using SonicStage on my Sony VAIO desk top computer running with Windows® Vista with great success.

Once you complete your project you can burn to CDs or export directly to your music files and folders on your computer.

I offer tutorials for a small fee if you need assistance in setting up and using these programs. Call or email me for more information using this link  Contact Joe
